‘Taste of Downtown,’ a toast to Centennial

Culver City will end its year-long Centennial celebration with a party in the city’s downtown area Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 5 to 9 p.m.

The party is the “Taste of Downtown Culver City: Centennial Summer Celebration, ” a ticketed, outdoor tasting event that will feature culinary stars dishing out tasty treats from pizza to poke and from sliders to souvlaki.

Participants can stroll along the lighted streets tasting food as they go as well as enjoy some great live music.

More than 20 participants will be featured during the event including Akasha, AR Cucina, CAVA, City Tavern, Kay ‘n Dave’s, LaRocco’s Pizzeria, Menchie’s, and Novecento Pasta & Grill.

Downtown Culver City recently took first place for its Centennial kick-off “Taste,” winning California/Nevada Festivals and Event Association’s “Celebration Award.”

Eric Sims, operations manager of the Kirk Douglas Theatre and president of the Culver City Downtown Business Association, said that this is a combination of two events: the Third Wednesday, which held on the third Wednesday of every month through the summer to showcase different beverages served in the city, and the Taste of Culver City, which is an annual event focusing on food.

Music will come courtesy of The Lady Lucks, an all-female swing band, and the wild-haired and extremely talented Marston, Lord of the Cello.
“There will be ticket giveaways at the theater,” said Sims. “There will be tastings all over Downtown, and plenty of family attractions.”

Admission for adults 12 and up is $20 (in advance) and $25 (at the door). For children ages 3-11, admission is $12 (in advance) and $15 (at the door).

The “Taste of Downtown Culver City: Centennial Summer Celebration” will be in Downtown Culver City which is located just south of the 10 Freeway and east of the 405, between the intersection of Culver and Washington Blvds and Duquesne Ave.

Take advantage of Downtown’s universal valet parking system by dropping your car off at any one of four convenient locations, then pick it up at another. Free parking is also available for up to one hour in any of Downtown Culver City’s three municipal parking structures.
