Celtic music group the Tannahill Weavers make their Boulevard Music debut on May 23, so the guys told the News about what they have in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing?

The band was formed in 1968, it was really just a bunch of school kids who liked folk music. They started off playing in each others houses, and once they were old enough, playing in sessions in bars etc. This led to folk club gigs and eventually, concert tours of the UK and Europe.

Describe your sound/style…

Traditional Celtic music with an attitude!

What are your career highlights so far…

Being inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame! In the old days, opening for Dire Straits in Rotterdam, winning various album awards, etc.

What recorded music is available?

The band has released 18 albums during its career, the most recent release is Solstice from 2024. We have another release due in September.

Have you performed at Boulevard before? Any memories?

No, this will be our first time at Boulevard Music. We’re looking forward to it!

What can we expect from the set this time?

A mixture of old and new, with the band’s iconic sound unchanged.

What else do you have coming up?

After this US tour finishes, we’ll be back for the Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival, one of the biggest and best in the USA. So we’re excited for that! After that we have a festival in Spain, another US tour in September/October, and a tour of the UK in November. It’s all go!

The Tannahill Weavers perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 23 at Boulevard Music. Go to boulevardmusic.com for more information about the show.
