Old timey country and blues man Sourdough Slim performs at Boulevard Music with partner in crime Robert Armstrong this week, so Slim told the News about what they have in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing?

I have been performing as Sourdough Slim since 1988. Robert joined me in 2000. We have been performing as a duo ever since.

Describe your sound/style…

We have a passion for the music and culture of the 1920’s and ‘30s. Most of the music we play is from this era. Cowboy classics, Western swing, country blues, novelty numbers and old timey music.

What are your career highlights so far…

We have performed solo and collectively at music festivals, fairs and concerts around the US. Some highlights include: Carnegie Hall, The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Prairie Home Companion and Gene Autry’s 88th Birthday Bash. Also TV and film work.

What recorded music is available?

We have six CD’s available. The latest being one titled Best Western.

Have you performed at Boulevard before? Any memories?

Yes, we have performed several times at Boulevard Music. A great listening room. Very intimate and up close. Always gracious, receptive audiences.

What can we expect from the set this time?

Our show at Boulevard Music will showcase our interpretations of classic cowboy songs, Western swing, country blues, novelty and old timey music. All served up with a healthy dose of vaudevillian stagecraft and humor on a variety of acoustic instruments including guitar, accordion, banjo, steel guitar, harmonica, musical saw and ukulele.

What else do you have coming up?

As far as more shows coming up in the Southern California area, we are really looking forward to entertaining at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival in April on the 11th through the 13th. For information, visit cowboyfest.org.
