The Culver City Rotary Club was recently honored with Club of Excellence awards in all eight categories of service, as established by Rotary International. In addition, the club was awarded the Rotary Foundation District Service Award, and a presidential citation with distinction from Rotary International.
“We are proud to be honored in this way,” said Linda Black, president of the Culver City Rotary Club. “Our members are thrilled that their hard work and efforts to give back to the community have been recognized and appreciated.”
The club has participated in a variety of activities aimed at strengthening and helping the community, including:
- Writing winning grants that purchased computer equipment for the Culver City Unified School District, helping to purchase wheelchairs for those in need, and purchasing bicycles for children in the Dominican Republic so that they will have transportation to get to and from school.
- Raising scholarship money and hosting the Culver City High School Invitational Track Meet.
- Helping support Interact and Rotaract clubs throughout the schools.
- Joining forces with Latinos Unidos to help feed more than 600 people and give each family a holiday dinner to take home, in addition to toys for every child.
- Working with Rotaract to send shelter boxes to Japanese earthquake victims.
“We have had a very busy year,” Black said. “Being so busy, we were able to help a lot of people and do a lot of good. We are proud to have taken first place in every category, further solidifying our dedicated efforts.”
The Culver City Rotary Club was started in 1930. Over the years the club has been a part of many community service projects, including founding the city’s YMCA in 1944. The group also helped build the Rotary Plaza in Culver City, which is a home for low-income senior citizens. The mission of the club is to always maintain dedicated service above self in the community. To learn more about Culver City Rotary Club, visit CulverCityRotary.org.
