Folk-ish musician Muriel Anderson is back at Boulevard Music this week, a year after her performance there with Jim “Kimo” West. Anderson spoke to the News about what she has in store for Culver City this time…
It’s been a year since we chatted — how was your 2024?
I have much to be thankful for! I’m now playing just the venues I most enjoy. It makes the shows fun for me, and I think the audience also has a lot of fun as a result. We’re also just now listing give-aways on my website, murielanderson.com.
How did you celebrate the holidays?
The holidays were especially wonderful because we had my entire extended family together for a week back where we grew up in Illinois. Bryan and I celebrated with them every day starting with caroling around the neighborhood with several generations from age 2 to 95, carrying kerosine lanterns and my sister’s little dog. (You can see a clip on a recent Monday Live on my YouTube page.) Then a music party back in Nashville with Suzy Bogguss, Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Smith, and lots of other friends. I hope your holidays were great, too.
How was the show at Boulevard last January?
We had close to a full house again. It might be good to get your tickets in advance, although we always find a way to accommodate walk-ins.
What can the audience expect from the set this time?
We expect everyone to leave with a big smile on their face! I have my primo 20-string harp-guitar with me. I use every string in a new tune I wrote in a Japanese groove style. I’ve got songs inspired by sailing, some humor of course, and a little surprise I can’t tell you about.
We are making my January 25th concert at Boulevard Music 100 percent benefit for World Central Kitchen for the great work they are doing providing meals for the firefighters and families in the Los Angeles area during this time. In addition, a percentage of my online orders of “Acoustic Chef” cookbook/CD goes to World Central Kitchen murielanderson.com/cookbook.
What else do you have coming up?
I will be touring in Italy, Ireland. and Scotland. If you can’t make it to Boulevard Music come join me there!
