Movies in the Park Make Life Better

Last weekend, Movies in the Park returned with the smash hit Barbie at Veterans Memorial Park. The program will now continue all through July.

Locals are encouraged to bring their blankets, picnic baskets, and lawn chairs to Culver parks to see recent hits and beloved classics.

On July 13, Mary Poppins will play at Syd Kronenthal Park. The 1964 Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke film remains a family favorite to this day, and it spawned a 2018 sequel.

On July 20, Wonka plays at Fox Hills Park. The 2023 musical fantasy is a prequel to the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory book by Roald Dahl, and the Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film. Timothée Chalamet takes the role of the magical Willy Wonka, previously played by Gene Wilder and, later, Johnny Depp.

Finally on July 27, the classic Wizard of Oz plays at West Alexander Park.  This night will feature Wizard of Oz memorabilia and photo opportunities sponsored by the Culver City Historic Society.

“The Parks Make Life Better campaign recognizes the importance of equitable access to parks, recreation, trails, open space, and facilities for the positive development of all,” the organizers say online.

The movies take place between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Contact (310) 253-6650 for more info.
