Make adoption your first option

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Molly Wooton, founder of Molly’s Mutts And Meows for the last year. She is an amazing woman who works tirelessly for the animals of Culver City and Los Angeles.

“I have volunteered in the LA animal rescue community for many years. In 2005, I figured, hey, why not try and start my own? Some folks thought I was crazy,” said Wooton.

Molly’s Mutts and Meows is a non-profit animal rescue organization. Their primary goal is to help animals from the Los Angeles area shelters find loving, new forever homes. Not an easy task with so many needy animals in the city.

“I wanted to place all the animals within our rescue into foster homes. By living in homes versus kennels and cages, we can tell so much more about each mutt or meow that we pull from our overcrowded city shelters,” said Wooton.

MMM works independently, but also collaborates, pulls and places animals with other reputable rescue groups and individual rescuers in the community.

“We believe the more local rescue people effectively communicate with each other, the more effectively we will be able to help those that cannot speak for themselves,” said Wooton.

Rebecca Thompson is a perfect example of the philosophy that makes MMM work so well. She spotted, Pepin at a local shelter. He had a few strikes against him— a senior citizen with several health issues.

That made Thompson want to help him even more.
She reached out to me, hoping I could help. And that is when I introduced Rebecca to Molly’s rescue.

The first step was becoming a foster—which meant some paperwork and a home check to make sure the dog would be safe living with Thompson’s other dogs.

“Fostering an animal is one of the most noble acts you can do in the animal rescue world,” said Wooton. “You open up your heart and your home to an animal in need. You also save it from a very uncertain, many times unfortunate future.”

The rest, as they say is history.
Pepin is now living with the Thompson family—Brian, the husband, London, fur baby No. 1 and Charlie, fur baby No. 2. On weekends he goes to MMM adoption events to find his permanent home.

Working together is the key to finding these homeless pets a new family. Molly says her hope is that she—along with her crew of volunteers—will inspire everyone to spread the adoption option message.

“Yeah, it’s a big dream,” she said, “But I believe you either dream big or go home.”

I could not agree with you more Molly.
