When first meeting Michelle Maher Ford, it was easy to see why she was voted Culver City’s best insurance agent. This Culver City native possesses a friendly and kind attitude, which is reflected in her relentless dedication to service and earned her the title of the Best of Culver City 2014 among insurance agents.
Ford began her insurance career by accident. After experiencing a robbery while working in Bank of America, the then college student realized “it was time for a career change.”
In 1995, she obtained her license, entering a new and exciting path that took her from State Farm to Allstate, eventually becoming an independent health insurance agent, now located at 11445 Jefferson Blvd. in Culver City. Going beyond personal monetary benefits, Ford acknowledges that the most fulfilling aspect of her job is helping others, especially the elderly. Although she recognizes the allure of online insurance services which the digital age offers, she insists that having an expert guide to navigate the arduous process of choosing the right coverage is still the key.
By honoring her commitment to absolute honesty, this agent tends to the specific needs of each individual case, putting the good of the client overany selfish agenda. Thus the secret to her success is this passion to serve. “I think my clients get that about me: my job is to protect them, not to make money,” Ford said.
That same passion inspires the work she does to better her community. “There is no other place I’d rather live in,” Ford confesses when speaking about her beloved city. This mother of three is particularly excited by the diversity that surrounds her family and she hopes that this vibrant mixture of cultures will teach her children to have “respect for everyone above all else, whatever career path they choose to follow.”
Ford remembers a time when Culver City was not the thriving place it is today, but a rather desolate suburb, yearning for a change. The dedication of local government officials and active neighbors transformed the city, bringing in business and reviving the downtown area. She cited the city’s leadership as a great source of inspiration. Now she pays tribute to those unsung heroes through her work in the Exchange Club, an altruistic group of business owners and local workers who organize different community based events, fundraisers and celebrations.
