Growing Great
Thank you so much for covering Linwood E Howe’s adoption of the Growing Great program.
The Linwood E Howe Boosters’ Green Team is very excited to bring this terrific program to our students.
As a nonprofit group devoted solely to improving the materials, environment and programs at our local public school, our partnerships are very important to us.
First, the Boosters are indebted to Mike Korgan at CCUSD who became an important advocate for our project.
We are very thankful for the invaluable service that Scott Saunders and Vista Demolition did for us to clear the proposed site for the current planters, but we had two other partners who contributed directly to their construction.
After the site demolition was done, Jonas deKrassel and DeKrassel Construction jumped on board and loaned us two of their best concrete formers and finishers – which was really a step forward, since their kids weren’t even at Lin Howe at the time.
DeKrassel’s professionals came in and did their part and left the site completely clean and perfect for the final step.
Jonas introduced us to Bonanza Concrete in Van Nuys – they’re not even in our neighborhood.
They pitched in and helped us out with an entire truckload of concrete that was delivered precisely and cleanly without disrupting classes or school schedule.
Bonanza really worked with us to make the whole project come together seamlessly.
The Linwood E Howe Boosters could not have completed this initial project without all three of our partners on the job: Vista Demo, DeKrassel Construction and Bonanza Concrete.
The recent success of the Growing Great program is the fruit of their selfless efforts.

What an excellent piece in the News last week, thank you Lori. You made our school look great, again.

No Improvements Wanted
It’s the same old story, the big guys (MTA, big business, banks) do whatever serves their interests best, including making whatever promises they need to get over the little guys (like me, a homeowner in the neighborhood adjacent to the Expo Line since 1979) be damned.
Culver City used to be a nice place. There isn’t one improvement made in the past 30 years that improved anything.
Quite the opposite. Perhaps the most shocking is the horrible unsafe resign of Washington Boulevard.

I love the new trend of gourmet food trucks. My absolute favorite is the grilled cheese truck. Especially when it parks in front of Cool Haus. Another favorite and a great pairing.

The food truck craze makes me cringe. In my day, we called them roach coaches. I just don’t understand how anyone would eat from them. How can the food not get contaminated by the exhaust? And do they meet the same standard guidelines from the health department? I wonder.
