Culver City High School’s girls’ basketball team is riding high in its quest for its third consecutive Ocean League championship after road wins over Inglewood and Hawthorne last week.
At Inglewood, last Wednesday, the Lady Centaurs (16-4 overall and 4-0 in league) made a big fourth quarter rally to bring down the Lady Sentinels, 68-58.
Culver took advantage of the shorthanded Cougars, last Friday, at Hawthorne for a 64-24 rout.
Against the Cougars, the Centaurs wasted no time in taking leads of 23-8 after the first quarter, 43-11 at halftime and 60-17 after three quarters. That resulted into a running time fourth quarter as Culver cleared the bench.
The Lady Cents were led by Kate Lin with 19 points. Kelly Tooke added nine points, and Michelle Curry and Megan Yoon each chipped in eight points.
Hawthorne, which fell to 2-2 in league, played without leading scorer and top overall player Deonshara Sadler who rolled her ankle two days earlier in its 34-32 win over Morningside.
The Lady Cougars were led by Kristina Brown with 11 points.
Against Inglewood, Culver trailed most of the game before outscoring the Lady Sents 26-10 in the fourth quarter to turn a six-point deficit into a 10-point victory.
After hosting Beverly Hills on Wednesday, the Centaurs visit Morningside Friday at 6 p.m. Culver travels to Santa Monica for a 5:30 p.m. league game Wednesday, Jan. 29.
