Irish pubs in the U.S. can be a mixed bag. If they run hard at the theme, there can be shamrocks all over the wall, Guinness signs everywhere, and green on every wall. Jameson’s isn’t that, preferring to keep the Irish theme subtle.
It’s not the only Irish bar in Culver City–we’ve written about Joxer Daly’s before, a bar which took the unusual step of installing a leprechaun door. But Jameson’s Pub has a very different feel, one of a sports bar for young professionals in a hip part of town.
“We pride ourselves on being frequented by groups of vibrant, young professionals and surrounded by a friendly and upscale community,” they say online. “Our upbeat, casual pub slings drafts, crafts, and specialty whiskey cocktails at 2-for-1 prices during our Happy Hours which run between 3 pm – 7 pm 7 days a week and late night between 10:30 pm –12:30 am Sun – Thurs! Get the weekend started early at our ‘Hair of the Dog’ brunch, with our Social Mimosas bottle service ‘til 3 pm for only $20.99. We like to say it’s more than just your average brunch, rather an afternoon celebration with live entertainment, DJs, and all the big games!”
The food, though, is superb. We opted for the Game Time Burger – a grilled, hand-made burger on a sesame seed bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo. We added cheddar, though there was also a choice of Swiss or blue cheese. We also chose for the meat to be cooked medium rare.
The meat was perfectly cooked too. Juicy and just the right shade of pink in the middle. It was well-seasoned and full of natural flavors. The melted cheese on top accentuated all of that, while adding a welcome sharp quality.
The salad was all lively and crisp – no limp greenery or soggy tomato. The bun was fresh and bouncy, the mayo soaked into it and adding to delicious flavor.
“We’re serving up a mix of California pub grub and Irish favorites, and the kitchen’s open late,” they say. “We have live music nightly, including live band karaoke, open mic, and LA’s hottest cover bands and VJs. Looking to host an event or private party? We’ve got a variety of options for any occasion including our upstairs mezzanine, private room, rooftop deck, and main dining room.”
Clearly, there’s a lot going on.
