It’s playoff time for football and girls’ volleyball

The Culver City football team joins the girls’ volleyball team in their quest to win CIF championships. The volleyball team played their CIF Division 4 semi-final match on last Tuesday and if they win that game against Cypress they will move on to the CIF Championship game on Saturday. Please contact Culver City high school to find out the time and place of that game if the Centaurs win the game on Tuesday.

The volleyball team is 28-1 and trying to create a dynasty. “We are still taking it one game at a time,” said head coach Tanner Seigal after their win over Pasadena Poly last Saturday at Culver City inside the Del Goodyear gym. “We never take anything for granted and I think that really helps us to stay focused.”

The defending girls CIF Championship team needs to win two more game to write their names in the history books as back-to-back champions. “We are extremely excited to be in this position but we also know the next two games will be tough matches and we will have to play at a high level to win.”

The 9-1 football team starts the playoffs on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Heritage Christian of Northridge inside the Jerry Chabola Stadium. Heritage Christian is 8-2 so once again the Centaurs will play a tough opponent in the first round of the CIF playoffs.

“We are ready for the playoffs,” said head coach Jahmal Wright after his team beat Beverly Hills last Friday at Culver City. “We have 20 seniors on this team that have waited four years for this moment. They know it does not matter who we put out there on the field, all of our players will be ready to play. Those 20 seniors are a combine 32-8 in their four years so I expect them to lead this team in the playoffs.”

One of those seniors, Alex Smith, who will be playing his college football at Wisconsin, is ready for the moment. “We feel good as a team,” said Smith after the win game last Friday. “We still have some things to work on but I think we are ready for the playoffs.”
