Local Americana troupe Coyote Moon performs at the Cinema Bar on Saturday, so founding member Adrian Rice told the News about what they have in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing?

I started performing when I was 14 with my pals from Junior High School in Upstate New York. The band was called Ralph and the Mugwamps. I wanted to form a group with a female lead singer to accompany my singing on country duets, a la Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Conway & Loretta and similar performers. Our sound and setlists have evolved over our ten year existence and we are gaining new fans and followers and an accelerated pace, which of course is both encouraging and affirming.

Describe your sound/style?

We call it Americana Roots Music. We blend folk, vintage country, rhythm & blues, and a touch of rock ‘n’ roll. We are a five-piece group who all can sing lead. Our vocal blends are a trademark of our live shows

What are your career highlights so far?

Numerous appearances at local Gram Parsons tribute shows, Ronnie Mack’s Elvis Birthday Tributes, Roadhouse Series at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival and of course being in a regular rotation at the Cinema Bar in Culver City,

What recorded music is available — particularly the most recent?
We have live recordings available on all the popular streaming services and on our website Coyotemoonoc.com. You can find us by searching “Coyote Moon Live” on the streaming sites.

Have you performed at the Cinema Bar before?

We have performed numerous times over the past year.  My favorite memory was the Sunday afternoon we were special guests of the great Tom Gramlich and Live Forever Band who hosts a monthly series. The great Bruce Ray White leaped off his barstool perch when we launched into our take on “Cowboys To Girls” and proclaimed to Rod Castillo the owner that he must book us immediately for a return engagement. We love the vibe and the music appreciating clientele who frequent The Cinema Bar.

What can the audience expect from the set this time?

We hit around 10:45 and will do two sets of our Cosmic American Music, as one critic proclaimed after hearing us for the first time.

What else do you have coming up?

We will be preparing for our next SoCal Songwriter Showcase which we host monthly at The Harp Inn Irish Pub in Costa Mesa. We post information on our website for our shows and the performers on our website and we can also be followed on Facebook by searching “CoyoteMoonOC.”
