Host families sought for northerly neighbors

The Culver City Sister City Committee will host a high school student exchange during the winter break holidays from Dec. 26 to Jan 3. The committee is seeking local host families that have a high school-age child, an extra bed and sufficient free time to show off Culver City and surrounding areas to a student guest.

The main purpose of the visit is to allow Canadian teenagers to participate in daily activities and to expose them what we do and how we live. Families agreeing to host will cover the costs of the visiting students as if they were another family member (i.e., meals out, movies, tourist attractions), but the students will pay for their own transportation to and from Canada and for personal incidentals during their visit. There will be a few pre-planned group activities on the schedule but most of the visitors’ time will be spent doing things with their host family, allowing all participants to get to know one another.

Anyone interested may contact Marla Wolkowitz at marlawolkowitz@ca.rr.com or Natalie Shaby at Lanatalie2000@aol.com. An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at Wolkowitz’s home, 10811 Ocean Drive, Culver City.
