Members of the Culver City Rotary Club, The Culver-Palms YMCA and Culver City Teen Center will be checking in race participants and hosting the 2nd Culver City’s Healthy 5K Run/Walk starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 3 at the West L.A. College Campus, 9000 Overland Ave., Culver City. In addition, Rotary, YMCA and Teen Center reps will be handing out T-Shirts and collecting entry fees.
“The college is a great place for a race going through the campus,” an event official said. “The hilly nature of the campus makes the race challenging, seeing the buildings interesting. The Fun Walk and Kiddie Race are on the excellent track.”
The race provides the community of Culver City an event focusing on support for youth programs and physical fitness, Rotary members said. Teams as well as individuals will be running or walking the race. Teams can be business associates, friends or family, officials added.
Ribbons will be given to all participants with metals going to the top winners in several categories. There will be a trophy for the team with the most members and the team that is the fastest.
Persons can participate in a variety of ways besides running, including as volunteers. Local businesses that wish to sponsor this event, make in-kind donations, reserve booth space or provide items for the swag bag can contact Chair Lamondo Greer, lamondogreer@ymcala.org; Jerry Morrow, geraldmorrow@ymcala.org or Carmela Raack, carmraack@aol.com.; or phone Deveon Corlew, 310-754-4973.
Race fees include the 5K Run/Walk, are $35, 14 years and older, or $20 for 13 years and younger. Children under 5 are free. The Fun Walk at 9:15 a.m. is no cost, as well as the Kiddie Race at 10 a.m.
People can register online at www.runculvercity.com. Go to Facebook for pictures from last year and comments, www.facebook.com/culvercityhealthy5K/. Parking is free for the race.
All proceeds will benefit youth programs at Culver City-Palms YMCA, at the Culver City Teen Center and the Culver City Rotary Club.
