On Aug. 16 at Vets Park, Pediatrician Sarah Carpenter, M.D. discussed proper sun protection and skin cancer in a talk entitled “Sun…the good, the bad, and the ugly.” She then lead the group on a neighborhood walk. All this was part of the monthly Walk-With-A-Doc outing.
Dr. Carpenter retired after 22 years at Kaiser Panorama City and now teaches fourth year medical students at UCLA. She also works part time for Kaiser and volunteers at the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center (Culver City School Health Center). She’s an avid fundraiser for and is president of “Friends of the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center.” She enjoys swimming, biking, walking and hiking. She also loves to travel and has just returned from a trip to Spain and Portugal.
Warm-up and stretching were led by Brandon Webb from Culver-Palms Family YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Counselor just before the walk at 8:40 a.m. The mission of Walk-With-A-Doc is to encourage healthy activity in people of all ages and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. This free event takes place on the third Saturday of every month. All ages and levels welcome. The next Walk-With-A-Doc will take place Saturday Sept. 20 with warms ups beginning at 8:40 a.m. and the walk commencing at 9 a.m.
