In addition to saving souls, Culver-Palms United Methodist Church is now in the business of saving the planet and saving money. The church recently became one of the first United Methodist churches in California to install a solar energy system.

Solar panels were installed on the roof above Fellowship Hall and the church office. The new 27-kilowatt system is not only good for the environment, but will also help the church save on electricity bills and possible future electric rate increases.

The new solar system was installed by Culver City-based Solar City Corporation, which will both monitor and maintain the solar panel system. The church paid no up-front costs due to a so-called Power Purchase Agreement, which works like a monthly lease for businesses, including participation by both Southern California Edison and Solar City.

Culver-Palms pastor Se Hee Han says he is excited about the new environmental-friendly solar panel system and that she would be proud to show the new system to other Culver City businesses that are interested.

The church is located at 4464 Sepulveda Blvd. and can be reached at (310) 390-7717.
