Outlaw rockers Yeah Buddy play the Cinema Bar this week, so founding member Jacob “Jacobilly Jakebrake” Davis told the News about what they have in store for Culver City…

When did you start playing and performing?

Based in Los Angeles, Yeah Buddy Band are three stage hands that took the stage!  We play songs about trucking, drinking, working, and driving. I started the band in 2017 while working as a stagehand as a way to combine my passion for old school outlaw country music and rock and roll. I wanted to write upbeat songs that celebrated working and humor. I honed my skills playing at the Motor Ave Farmers Market in Palms the first Sunday of every month for a few years. I knew I wanted to have a power trio where everyone sings lead and back up vocals. The band was formed with my musician co-workers, who are talented and hard working. Jason Dickie “Bird dog Dixie” on bass and Jesse Ortiz “Rip Snortin” on drums.

Describe your sound/style?

I call it outlaw rock and roll. But really we play original songs across genres from country, rock, ska, and punk influences.

What are your career highlights so far?

Our first album, Hot Off The Line, gained a lot of traction on college and community radio and earned us a spot on the Top 50 Roots Rock Chart for multiple weeks peaking at number 25 . Hits like “18 Wheels of Hell’s Yeah,” “She Feels Alive,” and “No Big Deal” were featured on radio stations in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

What recorded music is available — particularly the most recent?
Our first album Hot Off The Line is on all major platforms plus our two most recently released singles from last year, “Just Enough” and “Pomona By Night”. We made music videos for those that have been well received on Youtube.

Have you performed at the Cinema Bar before?

We have performed at The Cinema Bar several times over the past few years. Some of the best memories there are the audience’s reaction to the fun we are having on stage. It’s infectious, and people always seem to have a good time. We’ve had people come in who heard us from outside and were excited to hear real rock and roll music.

What can the audience expect from the set this time?

You can expect to hear some genuine humor mixed in with some exceptionally tight musicianship. There are always some jokes and laughs that are improvised in the moment. The songs are catchy, always have a hook, and will have you singing along even if you never heard them before.

What else do you have coming up?

We’re excited to release our new album, High Octane, in December. We have 10 news songs professionally recorded with our producer and engineer, Matt Gruber. Also in the process of booking more shows locally and abroad. The Yeah Buddy band is a good time, every time.

Yeah Buddy performs at 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 3 at the Cinema Bar. Go to thecinemabar.com for more information about the show.
