Here in the middle of the image-making capital of the world, Culver Park High School has been improperly labeled. Our school is not some sort of halfway house for delinquents. We are a real high school filled with kids who care about the community, our families and our education. Most of us are here seeking an alternate path to graduation. Many of us work during the week. Most of us work weekends. Culver Park High School accommodates our schedule in a way most schools cannot. Here at Culver Park High School we have overcome a lot not as a single student but as a family all united as one. “We acquire the strength we must overcome.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson
We are fortunate to have an exceptional group of dedicated teachers. Our Principal, Mrs. Turner, truly cares about our future. Thanks to her, we finally have our family at Culver Park High School. With her hard work and determination we were finally recognized as a Model Continuation School. Out of the 800 or so continuation schools in California we are the only one of the 50 who is a model continuation school. In 2010 we were visited by the Department of Education, and all the credit goes to Mrs. Turner, who says “I knew from the beginning this was a great school, and in 2010 the state of California officially recognized us as a model continuation school.”
Students here at Culver Park High School are taught the same curriculum as students at Culver City High School with one exception- our teachers really know how to communicate with us and we feel accepted here. In addition, our instructors also place an increased emphasis on team building. Everyone at Culver Park High School is part of the Culver Park family.
We take pride in our education and in our school. Culver Park High School offers students the opportunity to participate in numerous unique and incredibly well designed programs that serve to teach real-world skills and instill positive values. The programs at Culver Park High School offer real world insight and provide students with the tools to deal with life after high school. Some of these programs, including the dynamic k9 connection program, teach students the importance of discipline, consistency, communication and positive reinforcement.
k9 connection – where students learn to train shelter dogs in basic obedience skills in order to help them get and stay adopted, while additionally working on the students’ own personal goals. Pat Sinclair, k9’s Founder/Director says, “The students at Culver Park High School are an inspiration to all of us at k9 — they have big hearts and are unafraid of hard work. They are devoted to the dogs they train and they work together with both staff and fellow students with enthusiasm, empathy and humor. We love working with them.”
Sony Youth Mentor- A group focused on helping the teens in Culver Park with a big brother prospective helping them with communication skills and a better future.
