The Culver City Unified School District Board of Education has announced that it has selected Lynwood Unified School District Principal Dr. Cassandra Ziskind to serve as principal of El Rincon Elementary School, effective July 26.
Ziskind has spent the past three years as principal at Helen Keller Elementary School in the Lynwood Unified School District, which earned honors as a 2016 California Gold Ribbon School and a Title 1 Academic Achievement Award winner from the California Department of Education.
“I’m so excited to join El Rincon and the Culver City Unified School District!” Ziskind said. “I had the good fortune of recently meeting El Rincon students, parents and staff at a board meeting and everyone was so warm and welcoming. I am honored by this appointment and I am looking forward to meeting everyone, collaborating as a team, and doing my very best for EL Rincon!”
Ziskind brings to the position more than 26 years of educational experience, including experiences as principal, Resource to Intervention Expert, teacher, math coach and Categorical Program Coordinator. Her current school is a Title 1 school with a majority of English learner population and has made great academic gains during her three years as principal.
“Cassandra brings a lot of wonderful talents to her new position, and I am excited that she will bring her extensive experience and enthusiasm to El Rincon,” said CCUSD Superintendent David LaRose. “The students, teachers and staff at El Rincon are getting a great new leader.”
Ziskind earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from University of Houston and holds two master’s degrees: one in elementary education from Roosevelt University in Chicago and one in educational leadership and administration from CSU-Northridge. In 2013, she earned her doctorate in urban education leadership from University of Southern California.
