Culver City Unified School District Boardmember Dr. Steven Levin, an astrophysicist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, will be speaking to the Santa Monica Amateur Astronomy Club at the Wildwood Applied-STEM Institute’s middle and high School campus in Santa Monica on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7.p.m.

“I love to interact with the audience so I hope people bring lots of questions,” Levin said.

Levin was the lead scientist in developing the Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope that is part of the new Wildwood A-STEM Institute. He and a group of students will conduct a live experiment to search for extraterrestrial intelligence using a remotely controlled radio telescope that measures 34 meters in diameter, say organizers of the event.

He is the project scientist for NASA’s Juno Mission to Jupiter, a space mission where the spacecraft Juno will cruise around the planet Jupiter and study its composition as well as its gravity and magnetic fields.

Wildwood Institute’s middle and high school campus is located at 11811 Olympic Blvd. in Santa Monica. The event is free and is open to the public.
