Vivian Chinelli was a proud kindergarten teacher at Linwood E. Howe Elementary School for 17 years, before retiring 14 years ago.

Post-retirement, Chinelli wrote a book with the lengthy title, I’m Not Vegan But My Cousin Is: Rhymes, Raps and Other Good Stuff About Respecting Animals, Our Health and the Planet.

“For those who want to learn more about veganism but who don’t have the time or inclination to wade through long articles, videos, or documentaries, Vivian Chinelli offers a perfect alternative – concisely clever riveting rhymes and raps that deliver the vegan message with a snappy beat,” reads the blurb. “This little book with a big message contains 81 original pieces that are passionate, provocative, and sometimes light-hearted, but always informative and inspirational. Ms. Chinelli’s rhymes, and the powerful quotes that accompany them, explore animal rights issues and how veganism positively impacts our health and the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants.”

In 2023, Chinelli was invited to be part of National Independent Bookstore Day at Village Well.

“What an amazing event that was,” Chinelli says. “So many of my old kindergarten students came to support me. It was like stepping into a time machine to see them all grown up. It was truly one of the most exciting days of my life.”

This year, the Village Well has offered Chinelli her own author event, taking place on Saturday, November 9. She will be reading some of her favorite rhymes from the book, while plant-based coach and cooking instructor Diane-Rose Solomon will be a special guest.

The event takes place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 9 at Village Well Books & Coffee, 9900 Culver Blvd, #1b, Culver City 90232. Visit villagewell.com for more info.
