The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Rec Extension program is expanding and is now accepting students in 1st through 8th grade. The program is ongoing Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Jan. 4, 2021 at Veterans Memorial Building and Park. Registration opens online on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 8 a.m.
Rec Extension is small learning pods where staff will supervise students’ distance learning. Morning counselors encourage students to stay on task and afternoons will be spent outside in Veterans Park.
In a note from one of our current Rec Extension parents they said “I would like to emphasize how important the Extension program has been to our family…today, both my kids were so excited to go because the staff said they would have a scavenger hunt. They have been talking about it non-stop since yesterday afternoon. Those little things are so important in this crazy pandemic. And of course, for us remote working parents it allows us to get some work done and focus on it uninterrupted!”
All COVID-19 protocols and safety standards issued by LA County Public Health Department will be adhered to. This includes wearing of masks, social distancing, frequent cleaning, and hand washing.
Rec Extension offers access to free and upgraded Wi-Fi. Students are required to bring their own laptop/tablet device and headphones daily. Parents must also provide a printed school schedule for their children. Lunch, beverages, and snacks for the day are not included and must be provided by the family.
Rec Extension fees are $140 per week for residents and $151 per week for non-residents.
