On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Culver City, Los Angeles Community College District and Culver City Unified School District officials gathered together with West Los Angeles College leadership and students to celebrate the opening of the new on-campus bus stop which brings riders right to admissions and student services, the bookstore and café, classrooms and an elevator to the upper level of campus.

The location of the new bus stop was made possible by the college working in partnership with Culver City to create a bus turnaround at the college. Some voter-approved construction bonds funded the turnaround. In addition to bringing riders up two long inclines, which can be a difficult walk for some, it minimizes the number of homes adjacent to the college that the bus must pass.

The Culver City Bus had the honor of “cutting” the ribbon to the turnaround by driving through it as the WLAC president and mascot waved to all.

Another ribbon was cut at the actual bus stop by LACCD Trustee Nancy Pearlman with applause from LACCD Chancellor Dr. Adriana Barrera; Culver City representatives Vice Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells, Councilperson Jim Clarke, CCUSD Board Member Sue Robins, City Manager John Nachbar, Public Works Director Charles Herbertson, Transportation Director Art Ida and Chamber of Commerce President Steve Rose; as well as WLAC student leaders, faculty and staff.

“It is rewarding to see this collaboration between West LA College and Culver City come to fruition,” WLAC President Nabil Abu-Ghazaleh said. “We found a solution that serves students’ needs, encourages efficient use of clean air busses and is respectful of noise impact on our immediate neighbors. We were honored with the turnout of representatives of both Culver City’s City Council and school district and look forward to many successful collaborations.”

WLAC is served by the No. 3 and No. 4 Culver City Bus lines. Metro riders can connect to the Culver City buses that come to the college at the Washington/Adams Transit Center; the Culver City Westfield Mall; on Motor Avenue at Washington Boulevard, Venice Boulevard, and Palms Boulevard; on Pico Boulevard between Westwood and Beverly Glen Boulevard; and on Centinela Avenue near Sepulveda Boulevard.
