Cross country runners track personal bests

Lucas Nozick set hurdle records and Lauren Kelly ran the fastest 3200 meter run by a Culver City High School freshman in a decade in a season marked by personal records for Centaur cross country runners.

“The team never gave up and kept improving from meet to meet,” said coach Tom Fritzius, who soon will start off-season summer sessions at Culver High.

Nozick set two school records in the 110 high hurdles & 300 meter hurdles at Mt. Sac Invitational. Jonathan Moniz won the open 400, running 50.77, in the South Bay Championships at West Torrance.  Lauren Kelly ran 12:52.17 in the 3200 meter run at West Torrance, the fastest at that distance in years for a freshman.

Jeffrey Asai ran his best 1600 time of the year in 5 minutes in the South Bay Championships. Sam Cappoli’s best mark of 5:32.83 in the 1600 came against visiting Beverly Hills. Kevin Cortez covered the 1600 in 5:25 vs. Hawthorne for his personal best this year. Chris Goodwin ran the 1600 in 5:32 against Beverly Hills in his best showing.

Sho Harikawa had his best mark early in the season at the Ice Breaker Relays timed at 5:08 in the 4 x 1600. Robert Heyl’s best was 5:07 at Culver High against rival Beverly.

Cody Lewis broke the 5 minute barrier with a time of 4:59 against visiting Palos Verdes. Kevin Liu improved to 5:43 at West Torrance in the South Bay Championships. Jonathan Moniz peaked at 5:18 vs. North Torrance. Michael Mullins ran a personal best 5:07 in Palos Verdes.

Inez Alvarez sparked the 1600 girls’ squad with times of 6:25 in Culver City against Palos Verdes and Hawthorne.

Amina Anvery had a best of 7:02 against visiting Palos Verdes in the 1600. Irais Cardenas ran 6:59 vs. North Torrance at Culver High. Victoria Cornejo timed in at 7:54 and Ailene Hernandez at 7:48 at Culver City High’s track against Inglewood. Lauren Kelly finished at 6:08 vs. Hawthorne and Beverly Hills in meets held in Culver City.

Logan Kim ran the 1600 in 6:55 vs. North Torrance. Akela Morinaka was at her best in a home meet against Hawthorne with a time of 6:05.

Jazmin Orozco completed the 1600 in 6:00 vs. Palos Verdes. Tayler Rodriguez steadily improved to a time of 6:07 at West Torrance in the South Bay Championships.

Violeta Rodriguez had a personal best of 6:52 against Beverly Hills in the 1600. Daisy Ruidias ran 7:14 against Palos Verdes. Esmeralda Sandoval clocked a 5:59 vs. Beverly Hills. Sage Sims-Bleser finished at 6:07 and Hirari Watanabe ran 7:35 vs. Hawthorne.

Jeffrey Asai went 2:12 in the Nike/Redondo Invitational 4×800.

Sam Cappoli ran his best 800 with a time of 2:22 in West Torrance. Kevin Cortez ran a best 2:20 vs. Inglewood. Nathan Elkind did 1:03 vs. Beverly Hills.

Chris Goodwin ran 1:13 in the Mustang Relays 4×800. Sho Harikawa ran 2:18 in the Nike/Redondo Invitational 4×800. Robert Heyl went 2:18 and Kevin Liu ran 2:34 in the Ice Breaker Relays 4×800.

Cody Lewis improved to a 2:02 and Jonathan Moniz had a best time of 2:08 vs. Beverly Hills.

Robert Oliver covered the 800 in 2:17 at the Ice Breaker Relays 4×800.

For the girls, Inez Alvarez ran 2:49 in the Ice Breaker Relays 4×800. Irais Cardenas had 3:12 vs. Palos Verdes and Inglewood at Culver High’s track.

Akela Morinaka ran a best 2:43 in the Nike/Redondo Invitational 4×800.

Jazmin Orozco did 2:36 vs. North Torrance and in the Nike/Redondo Invitational 4×800. Tayler Rodriguez closed the season with bests of 2:44 vs. Beverly Hills and in the South Bay Championships.

Sage Sims-Bleser finished at 2:38 and Esmeralda Sandoval went 2:42 in the California Relays F/S 4×800. Miya Torimaru ran 2:46 at the Ice Breaker Relays 4×800.

Jeffreay Asai ran a personal best 11:21 vs. Hawthorne in the 3200.

Sam Cappoli covered the 3200 in 13:26 vs. Inglewood. Kevin Cortez went 13:03 vs. Hawthorne. Chris Goodwin’s best was 12:03 at the Nike/Redondo Invitational F/S. Sho Harikawa ran 11:49 at Morningside. Robert Heyl went 11:51 vs. Palos Verdes.

Cody Lewis did the 3200 distance in 10:55 and Robert Oliver went 11:18 vs. North Torrance. Kevin Liu’s best was 12:53 vs. Beverly Hills.

Lauren Kelly ran the 3200 in 12:52 at West Torrance. Logan Kim went 15:42 vs. Hawthorne.

Violeta Rodriguez did the 3200 in 15:10 vs. Beverly Hills. Esmeralda Sandoval went 12:57 in the Nike/Redondo Invitational F/S.

Robert Heyl went 3:46 and Chris Goodwin ran 4:03 in the 1200 of the Ice Breaker Relays. Sho Harikawa finished at 3:44 in the Mustang Relays. Akela Morinaka did 4:24 in the California Relays F/S.

Lauren Kelly finished at 4:29 in the 1200 in the Mustang Relays. Inez Alvarez did the 1200 in 4:46 in the Ice Breaker Relays.

Robert Heyl ran the 400 in 58 seconds in the Nike/Redondo Invitational and vs. Hawthorne. Jonathan Moniz ran 50 seconds at West Torrance.

Cody Lewis went 53 seconds vs. Beverly Hills in the 4×400. Lucas Nozick finished at 48 seconds in the Mt. Sac Invitational 4×400. Robert Oliver took 60 seconds in the Ice Breaker Relays.

In the 400, Inez Alvarez ran 1:14 vs. North Torrance.

Esmeralda Sandoval did the 400 in 1:11 at the California Relays F/S. Miya Torimaru went 1:13 in the Ice Breaker Relays.

Lucas Nozick set a school record of 14.52 in the 110 hurdles at the Mt. Sac Invitational.

Nathan Jimenez ran the 110 hurdles in 20.72 vs. Inglewood

Courtney Chappell went 18.88 in the 100 hurdles in Palos Verdes. Miya Torimaru ran 19.92 at Palos Verdes F/S.

Nathan Jimenez ran 47.02 in the 300 hurdles at Palos Verdes F/S.

Lucas Nozick did the 300 in 38.18 at the Mt. Sac Invitational for another school record.

Miya Torimaru ran 51.28, Michellae Bryant did 63.87, Alissa Morris went 55.15 and Hirari Watanabe ran 55.76 vs. Palos Verdes F/S in the 300 hurdles for their personal bests.
