Comedy show to benefit Promises Foundation June 15

Stand-up comedians and co-producers, Julia Austin and Solange Castro, as well as a host of other comedians, will be performing in a female-centered comedy show to benefit the needs of women and their children, on Friday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fanatic Salon Theater in Culver City.

Austin, who studied Creative Writing at the University of California, Los Angeles has performed as a stand-up comic throughout California over the past six years. Austin stated that she is also employed as a writer for a publication in Los Angeles which offers dating and relationship advice. One of her goals is to one day host a show about relationships.

Castro performed at popular venues such as the Comedy Store, LA Improv, and SF Improv. She has been performing as a comedian for close to twenty years according to Julia Austin. Castro studied English Literature and Playwriting at Yale University.

For the fourth year in a row, both Austin and Castro have supported local charities with their events. The past two years in a row, they chose to support an organization that gives back to women locally.

The Promises Foundation Miriam’s House will be the beneficiary of this years’ event where one hundred percent of the proceeds would benefit the needs of women and their children in Culver City.

Audience members can participate in giving to the nonprofit by showing up at the event with toiletries like soap or shampoo and or cleaning supplies, or even a larger item such as a vacuum or small kitchen appliance. The cost of the event will be discounted 50% when one or more of these items are donated at the door. The event will be help at Fanatic Salon who has generously offered to host the event at no cost.

According to Executive Director, Brenda Valiente. “The Promises Foundation Miriam’s House is one of the only places in all of California that allows for mothers in recovery to maintain custody of their children while they get help. It is a one-year residential sober living home.”

The Promises Foundation’s website states that its “vision is to support substance abuse prevention and provide behavioral health services to low-income women and their families. We strive to create innovative programs that provide a unique approach to substance abuse amidst under-served communities.”

Fanatic Salon is located at 3815 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066. The cost of the show is $20 or $10 with a donation. Tickets can be purchased at Venmo@Xchromoshow or at the door. Buying in advance is recommended since seating is limited.
