Planning for the city’s 100th birthday can officially begin soon, following the City Council’s approval of the creation of a committee that will be in charge of planning and coordinating of events and activities associated with the “Heart of Screenland’s” centennial.
The committee will soon appoint a board of directors of between five and seven Culver City residents, who will then create a series of bylaws for the organization.
“I anticipate the first meeting of the board will occur in July and meet monthly thereafter but may need to meet more frequently at the outset,” said Councilman Jim Clarke, who is at the forefront of the campaign for commemorating Culver City’s 100th anniversary. “Subcommittees will commence whenever there is significant interest from applications.”
Clarke talked about his idea of engaging the public, business owners and civic leaders in a centennial celebration during his reelection campaign earlier this year.
Activities for Culver City’s centennial culminate on Sept. 17. 2017.
