Friday night lights return to the Culver City campus Friday when the No. 1 ranked Division 11 Centaurs take on a very good West Torrance team. Kickoff is 7 p.m. inside the Jerry Chabola Stadium.
“We are excited to get the season going,” said head coach Jahmal Wright Monday after practice.
Wright has a lot to be excited about because he has a veteran team that includes some of the best players in Southern California. “We have an experience bunch of players this year,” said Wright.
Those experienced players are led by quarterback Jonathan Martin, receivers Charles Ross, Alex Smith and running back and receiver Kevin McGuire on offense. On defense the Centaurs will rely on linebackes Jordan Armstrong and Cortez Wright. In the defensive backfield they will be looking for Smith and Ross to make big plays.
“Jonathan is ready to go,” said Wright. “He is running the show. We are expecting him to play at a high level this year.”
Sometimes a No.1 ranking can put too much pressure on a team, but Wright thinks this experience team can handle the pressure. “It’s a little bit of pressure but this group is ready for the challenge.”
