The Culver City varsity boys’ basketball team took its fans on a roller coaster ride at Hawthorne High School during last Friday’s game in a wild 77-66 win, to even the Centaurs’ Ocean League record at 2-2.

The Centaurs travel to Morningside, Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in a league matchup.

Culver City hosted Beverly Hills yesterday but scores were unavailable at press time.

Culver’s defense and superb passing resulted in fast break opportunities for a 63-45 third quarter lead over the Cougars (0-4).  Hawthorne increased the defensive pressure and cut the lead to 72-66 late in the game.

A three-point basket by Wesley Dixon and seven fourth period points by Jordan Williams enabled the Centaurs to put the game away. Culver made a couple of stops, ran some clock to hold on to the lead for the win.

“We got a little speed,” Culver coach Adam Eskridge said. “It was a fast-pace game.”

Chris Edwards led the way with 11 assists and eight steals.  Armani Nicolis had a game-high 23 points, 10 rebounds and Dixon had nine rebounds with 10 points. Isaac Girley contributed 17 points, pulled down six boards and dished five assists. Chris Edwards had 13 points

The Culver City boys’ basketball team forgot that basketball is a team sport during its 80-65 loss last Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Inglewood High School.

Quick out-of-range shots, excessive dribbling and scarce passes resulted in a 10-1 start for the Sentinels. The Centaurs rallied but trailed 42-39 at the half and 59-54 after three quarters.

The Sentinels passed and rebounded better to best Culver City in the fourth quarter for the 15 point win. Culver City had only two offensive rebounds the entire game.

Culver City plays defending CIF-Southern Section Division IA and Southern California Regional Division I champion Santa Monica on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
