Lacrosse team stays under

control on road to playoffs

The glow of a 15-14 win over Mira Costa, March 18, shines into April for the Culver City High School lacrosse team with hopes of getting noticed for CIF playoffs.

“If defensively we stay under control and offensively we are patient, we have a good chance of winning,” said assistant coach Adam Eskridge

“I have a big smile. Beating Costa two years in a row is huge, because after years of not beating them, this is awesome,” said head coach Casey Chabola.

“As a scorer, it’s great when you can get the lead and you can trust your defense and goalie will have your back and hold on to it,” said Martin Beer. Goalie Raymier Simon, who made 19 saves in the game, is improving each week.

“When we play tight defense and put some points on the board, we win games. At the beginning of the year we had players only interested in their personal stats. But, when you play as a team, you win games,” said Logan Young.

“That win showed how Culver City is building a good program comparable to other school programs, which were already in place. Now, our youth programs are in place, and those players are now coming up to the high school with experience,” said former Centaur athletic director Jerry Chabola.

Players are Beer, Cayden Nakashima, Elliot Stanger, Thomas Melchor, Diego Rodas, Jack Sheehy, Matt Suyetsugu, Aaron Bravo, James Morgan, Alex Redd, Felix Cardenas, Paris Patterson, Nicholas Vu, Anthony Overton, Robbie Clarkson, Casey Feinberg, Jonathan Reyes, Rene Giron, Cole Thompson, Abdullah Suleimen, Peter Pia, Rex Finch, Mitchell Chan, Ivan Guzman, Oscar Pena, Devyn Roche-willis, Tyler MacIntosh, Simon and Young.
