CCPD reports burglaries on the rise in recent weeks

CCN

On Thursday, July 25, at about 12:50 p.m. a Culver City police officer observed a suspicious vehicle speeding away from a residential area of the Culver Crest and detained the vehicle in the area of Overland Avenue and Raintree Plaza.

The officer contacted the three occupants and discovered evidence of a residential burglary, as well as stolen property inside the vehicle.  Additional CCPD officers began canvassing the neighborhood and located the unoccupied burglarized home several blocks away. The investigation resulted in three felony arrests for residential burglary, as well as search warrants served at several locations in the city of Los Angeles, which produced additional evidence and arrests.

The Culver City Police Department asking that people remain vigilant in their neighborhoods during these summer months and to please continue assisting the department in crime prevention efforts by quickly reporting any suspicious activity observed.

On July 23 at about 1 p.m. a resident called the Culver City Police Department and reported a burglary in progress in the 11100 block of Westwood Boulevard. Officers quickly arrived and stopped the suspects as they fled the area in a silver 2014 Chevrolet Equinox SUV.  The suspects were safely taken into without incident. They are described as two male, African Americans in their early twenties, one a resident of Long Beach and the other a resident of Los Angeles.  A significant amount of property was recovered from the suspects’ vehicle and will soon be returned to the rightful owners.

The suspects were later questioned and confessed to two other burglaries in Culver City, and it is believed that they committed at least one additional burglary several weeks ago.

Thanks to the quick thinking and courage of a vigilant resident, and the outstanding work of the officers of the Culver City Police Department, two burglars were safely arrested, several burglaries were solved, and a considerable amount of stolen property was recovered.

This arrest is a shining example of what we can accomplish when our community and police department work together and take a stance against crime.

CCPD is urging anyone with information on these, or any other burglaries involving the above-described suspects to contact the Culver City Police Department.
