On Sunday, April 20, the Culver City Police Department released a statement to report that, thanks to automated licence plate recognition, they had recovered two stolen cars in just two hours.
“On Saturday afternoon, officers recovered two stolen vehicles in separate incidents, thanks to real-time alerts from our Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system,” they said.
The first stop occurred when a stolen vehicle was located on the 10700 block of Jefferson Boulevard. Officers reported that the driver was arrested without incident.
Two hours later, the second stop occurred when a stolen vehicle was spotted near Sepulveda Boulevard and Culver Boulevard.
“Officers conducted a safe traffic stop in the 4300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, arresting the driver for vehicle theft and a passenger for drug possession,” they said. “Another example of how technology and proactive policing are working together to keep Culver City safe.”
