The Culver City Police Department released a statement on Tuesday, May 20, reporting on an incident that occurred at about 1:45 a.m. that morning.

“Officers attempted to stop a stolen black pick-up truck near Sepulveda Blvd and Jefferson Blvd,” they said. “The driver failed to stop and within seconds accelerated to approximately 70 miles per hour, ran through a red light, lost control, and crashed near Green Valley Circle—flipping onto its side and shearing a light pole. The driver, described as a male black wearing a black sweater and red sweatpants, exited the vehicle, hopped a chain link fence, and fled into the nearby freeway embankment.”

According to the CCPD, “Officers safely detained the two passengers at the scene and they were transported to a local hospital as a precaution for minor injuries. The driver was not located despite an extensive search of the area. The vehicle was recovered as evidence and the investigation is ongoing.”

A report by KTLA revealed that, “A drone was deployed in the area to aid officers in the search for the unidentified third suspect; however, the search was called off around 6 a.m. without the suspect being found.”
