Have you ever wondered what Mexican food would be like if it was combined expertly with Indian cuisine? If classic items such as burritos and tacos were blended with the tastes and textures of famous Indian dishes. Enter Bombay Frankie Company.
“Every dish in our kitchen is a celebration of authenticity and flavor, meticulously prepared daily using only the freshest ingredients,” they say online. “Our commitment to homemade love ensures every bite is not just food, but an experience to savor. Every dish we serve is steeped in the tradition of homemade love. We use only the freshest ingredients, ensuring each meal is not just a dish, but a celebration of rich, authentic flavors.”
“We pour care into every dish we prepare,” they add. “This isn’t just cooking – it’s our way of sharing our culinary heritage, meticulously prepared to bring you the best of homemade Indian cuisine.”
That’s important, because the flavors are authentically Indian–it’s the presentation that sees the influence of other cultures flow in. As well as their specialty Indian Burrito (The Frankie) and Fish Tacos, they also have a “Pijja” (a chicken tikka masala take on pizza).
Obviously, all of this sounds like a ton of fun, and it is. On entry, we were greeted by a life-sized werewolf. We don’t know if this was a leftover decoration from Halloween (we went there in early December), it’s a company mascot (there are no signs of any werewolves on their website), or if it’s just a fun item to add character. Either way, we dug it.
On a Sunday, the place was pretty busy and the staff seemed stressed but were still friendly and helpful. We decided to try those fish tacos, and they were divine.
“Start with mini rounds of freshly baked naan,” they say. “Add house-made slaw and fresh tomatoes. Then add two crispy chickpea battered pieces of spiced fish. Top with punchy pickled red onion, tamarind chutney, and a touch of raita.”
Here’s the thing–every single element of the dish is perfectly placed. The naan is warm, soft and comforting. The spiced fish is gloriously golden on the outside, flaky and juicy on the inside. The Indian spices, blended with the chickpea batter, is to die for.
The crunchy slaw, tart pickles, impressive chutney and lively raita bring the whole thing together. Genuinely, it’s like no fish taco we’ve ever had before. Which, when you think about it, makes sense.
