The Danger Zone Dance Project launches its 2014-15 season with a rare fall performance of original works by the students and teachers of the Academy of Visual Performing Arts Dance Department at Culver City High School.

The fall show will take place Nov. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. at the Robert Frost Auditorium, Culver City High School located at 4401 Elenda St. in Culver City. General admission tickets are $5 and student tickets cost $4. Highlights of the evening – a more streamlined, experimental counterpart to the company’s traditional spring show – include a performance of “Yesterday’s Tomorrow,” choreographed by AVPA contemporary dance teacher Sadie Yarrington.

Premiered by the Advanced Contemporary class at the Odyssey Theater this October, the dance is set to “Daffodil’s Lament” by The Cranberries and explores how a community can support, strengthen, and inspire individuals to overcome life’s obstacles.

AVPA’s ballet/jazz, advanced ballet/jazz, contemporary, advanced contemporary and choreography classes will perform new works they created. Students from the AVPA Lighting Class will experiment with the newest techniques they have been learning.

Since 1996, the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (AVPA) at Culver City High School has inspired and empowered students to build a compassionate, creative community through innovative and challenging arts education. AVPA enjoys tremendous support from organizations including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Center Theatre Group, Playa Vista, and West Los Angeles College, as well as the Culver City community.
