It’s finally over. After months of hard work, we finally have our winners. Congratulations!
Of course, I’m talking about the annual Best of Culver City winners as chosen by you, the readers. OK, not really. The school board elections are finally over and two qualified candidates have emerged victorious and congratulations are in order.
But back to the Best of thing for a minute. Every year, we compile a list of the top shops, eateries, attorneys, accountants, masseuses, places to do this or that, etc. And every year, our readers vote for their favorites. All the while, we attempt to put out the same top-quality newspaper, which you’ve come to expect each week. Meanwhile, our meager staff struggles to do multiple tasks with a looming deadline that approaches like storm clouds.
So, I just wanted to take a moment to give a hearty thanks to the many people who help churn out a product that as the editor, I’m very proud to be a part of.
First of all, our publisher deserves a load of credit. Publisher Alan Moskal might take a bow if his back wasn’t hurting so bad. He suffered a lower back injury as we approached the Nov. 3 deadline, but played through the pain.
Jose Morales, our graphic designer, had to deal with an editor who gently coaxed him to focus on the weekly paper even as last-minute ad changes flooded in and the annual magazine was full of white space. I’m happy to say that I was not stabbed once during the entire process.
The winners were contacted by Arlene Myers, who had the joy of breaking the good news. And as she does each year, also compiled all the contact information.
Culver City’s gold-star winning photographer and columnist for this paper, Lori Fusaro, provided all the photographs. And like a good photographer, she even came up with a few captions.
Thanks, of course, to all of our wonderful columnists for continuing to bring you their insights, anecdotes and opinions and our investigative reporter, Gary Walker, for delivering five exclusive in-depth profiles of the candidates for school board.
And that brings me back to the school board election. Congratulations, once again, winners.
