West Los Angeles College demolition bash

West Los Angeles College (WLAC) begin demolition of 43-year-old “temporary” buildings during the winter break as part of its on-going campus transformation funded by voter-approved construction bonds.

To mark the occasion, WLAC is holding a Demolition Bash at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

All are invited to participate in the farewell photo. Be sure to wear your favorite 1970’s and/or construction worker apparel.

Get your photo taken swinging a ceremonial sledgehammer then graffiti your thank you message to these well-used buildings on one of the walls.

Following the event, guests are invited to explore the dramatically renewed campus with three new LEED certified, story buildings and lovely new walkways and courtyards.

The new Café West is open for lunch and the adjacent expansive lawn behind the Student Services Building offers a great view of Culver City. Parking will be free in Lot #5, which is located off Freshman Drive.

Village School adopts Mar Vista Family Center families

            Village School’s students, parents and administrators adopted Mar Vista Family Center for the second year thisholiday season to help provide hot meals and needed items for the center’s after-school program and recreational activities.

      Families from Village School in Pacific Palisades and Mar Vista Family Center come together on Saturday, Dec. 15 at noon to celebrate the holidays in an exchange of gifts, music, food and folklore.

      The holiday party will feature an appearance by Santa Claus, Christmas caroling, dance performances, arts and crafts, food booths, guided tours, and other family activities.

Culver City Orchestra

 

Jonathan Mohr, a member of the orchestra’s Bass Section, through his Mohr Music will be presenting on Dec. 16 a string quartet and brass quintet comprised of orchestra musicians at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market with music starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m.

The Mar Vista Farmer’s Market is held at Venice and Grand View Boulevards. There is no charge to hear the music, and please shop at the market.

Meeting on hydraulic fracking

Culver City Mayor Andrew Weissman and Councilmember Meghan Sahli-Wells, with special guest State Assemblymember Holly Mitchell will be holding a public meeting to allow citizens to present information on hydraulic fracking at the Baldwin Hills-Inglewood Oil Field on Friday, Dec. 14, 9:30 a.m.12 p.m.

This is an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns.  At the Veterans Memorial Building, 4117 Overland Ave.
