CC Democratic club endorses 3

The Culver City Democratic Club announced on February 10 that it endorsed Council Member Meghan Sahli-Wells, Cultural Affairs Commissioner Thomas Small and Social Worker/Filmaker Daniel Lee for election to the Culver City Council on April 12. Just a day prior to that announcement, the L.A. County Democratic Party also had endorsed the same candidates.

Council Member Sahli-Wells had spearheaded efforts to create the Safe Routes to Schools initiative, improving traffic safety and health in the neighborhoods. This program which started as a volunteer effort is now a district-wide program with over $3.5 million in grant funding. She was also Mayor of Culver City from 2014-2015 and now is Chair of the Sustainability Subcommittee as well as the School Board and City Council Liaison Committee. She is endorsed by Congress Member Karen Bass and all members of the Culver City Council.

Cultural Affairs Commissioner Thomas Small is a Yale graduate, architect and writer whose background and professional affiliations will no doubt contribute meaningfully to sustainable urban design and help the city navigate through its current traffic impasses. He also helped create the city’s first honorary poet laureate, Dr. Janet Hoult. As Cultural Affairs Commissioner, he has awarded $48,000 in grants to Culver City performing arts organizations.

Film maker and social worker Daniel Lee has been working for five years on the MLK Celebration Committee and has been a mentor to the El Rincon Young Storytellers Foundation and Culver Teen Center. He is committed to ensuring voting rights of all as a member of the National Board of Directors for Move to Amend. He has served his county as a US Air Force and Air National Guard veteran. This would explain his resolve and steadfast commitment to clean air, water and land use, advocating that the Inglewood Oil Field be transformed into a clean energy generator such as a wind farm.

All of our three endorsed candidates are also endorsed by the Sierra Club, Culver City Community Coalition and the League of Conservation Voters. Please join us in voting for them now via ballots by mail or in person on April 12.
