St. Bernard High School’s MUN program participated in the 32nd annual conference at Mission Viejo High School on Jan. 17 and 18. The club took home four awards with Alexandria Davis and Andres Duarte both winning Research awards and Greg Mitchell chosen as an Outstanding Delegate in his committee.

But it was Davis who stole the show by taking the top honor by being chosen the best delegate in her committee, which focused on the Ebola virus and the Syrian Civil War.

Davis, a junior at St. Bernard High School, was awarded Best Delegate award along with the coveted gavel for her diplomacy and achievement in her committee. This is a milestone for the school as Davis being the first and only Model United Nations Club member to receive the Best Delegate Award, as well as the first to receive the Best Delegate Award within Advanced MUN committees.

This was not the first time Davis was selected top in her group. Last year, at the same Mission Viejo Conference, she was chosen as the Best Delegate in the Novice category. On Sunday Jan. 18, Davis won the top honor in an Advanced Committee, which allowed her to bring home the coveted gavel.

All told it was another successful weekend for the Viking MUN team. During the past two years, this small troupe of eight members have won 36 awards and with the prestigious UC Berkeley Conference looming on the horizon they are preparing diligently for more success to come.

Persons are invited to the campus to discover St. Bernard. Persons interested can contact Christina McCole (310) 823-4651 ext. 113 or cmccole@stbernardhs.org for more information or to arrange a campus tour today.
