Officers from the Culver City Police Department released a statement on New Year’s Day, detailing some of the incidents that they dealt with while most people were celebrating the evening before and in the early hours.
“At 11:10 p.m., near Bristol Parkway and Centinela Avenue, officers observed a suspicious subject with not one, but two bicycles in his possession,” they said. “The subject was found in possession of methamphetamine, burglary tools, access cards, vehicle registration, and other pieces of mail in someone else’s name. The subject was arrested for probable cause burglary.”
Only five minutes lanter, at 11:15 p.m. on Overland Avenue, an officer “likely interrupted a burglary from occurring when he observed suspicious subjects carrying backpacks and flashlights to the rear of a closed business. One of the suspects was found in possession of methamphetamine and an access card in someone else’s name. The suspect was arrested for petty theft with a prior.”
More was to come on Diller Avenue at 12:45 a.m., with 2025 only 45 minutes old, when the police learned that a burglary had occurred.
“Officers quickly obtained video footage that confirmed 2 suspects were involved in the theft,” they said. “Police immediately began searching for the suspects and a short time later, an officer spotted the burglars in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Overland Avenue. When police attempted to detain the suspects they both fled on foot. A perimeter was established and one of the suspects was taken into custody in the area of Summertime Lane and Maytime Lane. Officers located the other suspect in the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Leahy Street. Another foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was taken into custody. Police located the backpacks the suspects attempted to discard, which had a total of 3 stolen handguns, multiple loaded magazines, and stolen property inside (pictured). Both suspects were arrested and booked for the burglary of multiple Culver City homes.”
