While there are still votes being counted, it looks very likely that Bryan “Bubba” Fish will take the seat on the City Council which will be vacated by Goran Eriksson.
The two incumbents–Council Member Albert Vera (10,660 votes) and Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin (9,160 votes)–look to have been successful with their reelection bids. Fish looks safe to take the third seat, with 8,507 votes. His closest rival for the seat is Jeannine Wisnisky Stehlin with 8,181 votes. The election won’t be certified until December, but Fish is increasingly looking safe.
“Thank you, Culver City,” Fish posted on social media. “While there are still ballots outstanding, we are confident that once all votes have been counted, we will have won our race. It is an honor of a lifetime to serve as your next Councilmember.”
“In spite of a mountain of special interest cash, Culver City voters have entrusted our grassroots campaign with a seat at City Hall,” he continued with a lengthy statement. “We shared a vision of a city with affordable housing, safe streets, and services that improve our lives. And when corporate lobbyists, police associations, and MAGA millionaires spent over $400,000 on a misinformation campaign to defeat us, we stayed focused on the issues that matter to Culver City. We held dozens of meet-and-greets, six public forums, wrote 2,500 postcards, made thousands of calls, and knocked almost 20,000 doors.”
“To everyone who had a hand in this campaign: we could not have done this without you,” Fish said in conclusion. “And to the people of Culver City, including our residents, workers, and small business owners: this victory belongs to you.”
Fish’s election will mean that the City Council returns to a progressive majority.
