The Culver City Police Department will conduct a DUI (or Driving Under the Influence) checkpoint on Friday, September 22 at an undisclosed location in Culver City, between 7 p.m. and midnight.

According to a press release from the CCPD, the locations of the checkpoints are determined according to incidents of diver-impaired crashes and other traffic incidents. The primary purpose of these checkpoints, they say, is to promote safe and aware driving.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Culver City Police Chief Sims said in a statement. “Any preventative measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Within the release, the CCPD also took the time to remind drivers that “under the influence” doesn’t only relate to alcohol but also drugs, legal and illegal, including some over the counter medications.

“Some prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and illegal drugs may interfere with driving,” they say. “While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, if convicted.”
