Howling at the Cinema Bar with the Gray Wolf Blues Band

The Gray Wolf Blues Band formed in 2006, taking advice from fellow Native American and former Prince/Crown of Thorns guitarist Micki Free. “The Graywolf Blues Band, founded by Gray Wolf, Alfred ‘Panther’ Mazza and Andreas Gobor, was nominated for five Native American Music Awards in 2008, winning in 2009 for their original hit ‘Dancing In The Rain’,” they say on their website. “The Graywolf Blues Band is a high energy revue filled with a unique mixture of original songs and recognizable standards.” 

Founding member Alfred Mazza is a man of few words, but he took some time to tell us about what Culver City can expect from their forthcoming set at the Cinema Bar…

When did you start playing and performing? 

I started playing in 1960.

Describe your sound/style?

I play blues.

What are your career highlights so far?

I played with Micki Free and lrene Bedard, star of Walt Disney’s Pocahontas. At age 19, I played with the Art Laboe Oldies but Goodies show backing up the Coasters, Olympics, the Drifters, Rosie and the Originals, and many more. 

What recorded music is available — particularly the most recent?
We won a Native American Music award for the song “Dancing in the Rain.”

Have you performed at the Cinema Bar before?

This is our first time at this venue.

What can the audience expect from the set this time?

We have three lead singers and do a mix of originals and blues standards.
