Some kids want to have fun in the summertime and some kids want to learn. The Beyond Pre-K program at Culver West Park in west Culver City offers both. The Spanish preschool and summer school for kids is a combination Spanish education and fun activities that offers kids 3-8 the opportunity to learn Spanish in a safe, fun and educational atmosphere. The programs are offered through Culver City’s Parks and Recreation Department, and it features two of the best preschool teachers in Culver City. Vera Chang-Garcia and Elvia Wulf are long time teachers at Culver West Park that blend experience with a caring attitude. They provide a different experience every day for the 3–5-year-old preschoolers and the 6–8-year-old students. “It’s no secret that bilingual students excel not only in school but also later in life,” said Wulf. “Experts have determined the optimal time for children to master a new language is at a young age. That’s why the program here is so important.” It’s not just about learning a new language, the programs help the kids develop social skills, self-regulation, meaningful connections with their peers and community and love for nature. During the pandemic the school had smaller classes and followed proper CDC guidelines. For the summer the school is having their regular age group of preschoolers, 3-5 years old in the morning and kids 6-8 in the afternoon. Beyond Pre-K will continue in their preschool classes in the Fall of 2022.
