Several members of the community gathered for this month’s Walk-With-A-Doc outing. The two-mile, one-hour walk is a chance for participants to exercise in a group as they walk through the streets of Culver City.

Prior to the walk Dr. Pouya Shafipour of Wellesley Medical Group in Santa Monica delivers an informative health presentation after warm up and stretching with Culver-Palms YMCA Fitness trainer, Brandon Webb. Warm up begins at 8:40 a.m. and is followed with the talk and walk at 9 a.m.

Everyone interested should meet at Veterans Park, at the corner of Overland Avenue and Culver Boulevard, near the tennis courts. Walk-With-A-Doc is a free, non-profit program open to all interested in taking steps toward improving their health.

The American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org/) reports that even moderate-level activities offer health benefits. So whether this is the first step toward a healthier lifestyle or just a new activity to freshen up an existing exercise routine, walking helps reduce risk factors for heart disease, reduces stress and increases energy.
