The Culver City Girls’ softball team is currently 5-3 under the direction of 24-year-veteran coach John Sargent. The team is improving according to Sargent but they are leaving too many runners on base when they are in scoring position. Their next game will be Thursday April 10, against Leuzinger at Culver City at 3:15 p.m…………..
The Culver boys’ and girls’ track and field team competed at the Mira Costa Mustang Relays last Saturday under the direction of coach Jahmal Wright. The highlight of the day for Culver City was Kevin Beacham’s long jump mark of 23’4.75. That jump by the 6-1, 185 pound football, basketball and track star is the fifth longest jump in the State of California for high schools. On the girls side Kyndahi Carter placed third in the 100 and 300 hurdle races. The boys’ 1600 meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:35.65 behind Redondo Union’s winning time and their time of 3:31.49. The girls’ 400 meter relay team also placed fourth with a time of 50.75. The Centaurs next track meet will be Saturday at the Palos Verdes Invitational at 10 a.m. ………….
The Culver City boys’ volleyball team is 4-8 overall and 2-0 in League. They travel to Beverly Hills on Tuesday for a 3:15 p.m. match and they will host Morningside on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. They are led by Wesley Dixon who was also a starter on the basketball team and the coach is Joe Manzo………..
The boys and girls lacrosse teams will be in action next week when the boys travel to Beverly Hills on Monday for a 4:15 p.m. game. They will then host Palos Verdes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The girls coach is Stephanie Cardenas and the boys coach is Casey Chabola……………
If UCLA’s basketball team expects to advance deeper into the NCAA Tournament next year they need to get bigger and stronger. After watching the games last weekend, teams like Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Connecticut and Michigan make you realize college and professional basketball has become a much more physical game. That’s why the Clippers signed Glen “Big Baby” Davis about a month ago…………….
The Lakers have seven games to go in one of their worst seasons ever but they continue to play hard and the crowds at the Staple Center have been very supportive……………
