Roxanne Brown, 58, of Venice was on the beach with three of her friends when she saw lightening hit the water. “I saw two glowing yellow lines that went into the sand about a foot in front of me. It was as if they were beside me,” Brown said. One of her friends who lives on Fleet Street? a block west of where witnesses first lightning? suggested that they take metal chairs with them for their day on the beach.

“I’m glad that we decided to just sit on blankets,” Brown said.
